Brilliant Nigerian man who resigned his job to study abroad becomes successful, graduates with PhD from UK university

A brilliant Nigerian man named Segun Popoola has successfully earned a PhD degree in Information and Communications Engineering from the Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom.

Segun Popoola started his higher academic endeavour at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, South-West, Nigeria where he graduated with an outstanding first-class degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He proceeded to Covenant University also in South-West, Nigeria to earn a Master’s degree in Information and Communication Engineering.

After his Master’s degree, Segun resigned from his job in Nigeria to move to the United Kingdom with his family after clinching a conditional scholarship to study at the Manchester Metropolitan University in England.

His wife, IniOluwa Afolabi described their journey as moving from the known to the unknown. She wrote in a celebratory note on LinkedIn that her husband, Segun Popoola was strong hearted and patient enough to see them succeed. “I celebrate him today because as overwhelming as the journey was, he took time out to invest in my development, was patient with my growth process, provided all the necessary resources to refine and bring out the research potentials in me,” she said.

She also outlined how he has not only ensured his success but also hers too. “Today, I can say he is the one who made me have a name in Google scholar with few publications indexed in reputable journals. He taught me the essence of volunteering, collaboration, writing publications and provided objective internal review to all the articles and scholarship applications I’ve made,” she added.
