When I go to another country on a mission, I find I get into more trouble, when I try to speak the language that’s not mine. I focus on learning one thing. How to say, “I don’t know how to say anything in your language.” Or as some say, “Sorry, I no-a speak-a your language.” Somehow we think if we just add vowels to English they’re going to understand. Our enemy the devil; HaSatan in Hebrew, is a speaker. He accuses, he engages. He engaged Adam and Eve and they got into trouble when they spoke with him. It’s important – in dealing with the enemy; if he wants to engage you in dialogue of temptation, self-pity, pride, anger, with thoughts or words – that you don’t deal with the enemy. When the enemy tries to engage you, disengage. Pay him no heed. Don’t listen to him. Don’t talk to him. Let it go right by you. Treat it like gibberish; as if you can’t understand it and it has no place in your life. Just tell him, “Sorry, I no-a speak-a your language.” And be done with it.
The shofar is the instrument of the watchmen.
It wasn’t just the priest who blew this or the prophets who evoked this It was the watchmen that sounded it.
The shofar is the instrument of the watchmen on the walls.
Standing on the walls of the ancient city were the watchmen. Their charge was to keep watch.
Upon the first glimpse of an invading army or danger, they would take up the Ram’s horn, the shofar, and they would sound it and blast it as loud as they could to wake in the city of the danger.
If in ancient times, you’re living in a city, which would be a walled city, and you heard the sound of the shofar, the sound of the watchmen, it was a warning.
It was warning you of danger.
Telling you an enemy was coming to the city, get ready, wake up, get ready, prepare.
There is an appointed time in the Hebrew year when the sound of the watchman is heard in the early hours of the day.
Only a small window of days when that sound converges with the reside reciting of scriptures linked to judgment or an an a national judgment, uh, of a nation.
The context is a nation that had known god, like Israel, but turned away.
And so the scriptures are recited, and the shofar is sounded, and it’s pleading for mercy.
The prayers are called the the prayers for mercy in light of judgment.
And they’re recited in the early morning, and the trumpets are sounded in the early morning and they are linked to the rising of the sun.
One of those days was September eleven two thousand and one. The morning of September eleventh twenty years ago.
According to the ancient ordinance, the scriptures and prayers regarding judgment were being recited in the morning resided even in New York City before it happened.
And the scriptures of national judgment and calling for mercy And then the shofars were sounded throughout with a link to the rising of the sun.
